Check if we can help
Tell us your sector and roughly what you process. We'll say honestly whether we can place you.
Why businesses get classed as high risk
Acquirers look at how likely a business is to see chargebacks, refunds or fraud. You might be classed as higher risk because of:
- Your sector, for example subscriptions, travel, ticketing or supplements
- Taking payments in advance of delivering the goods or service
- A short trading history or a past account closure
- High average transaction values or a high chargeback rate
- Selling mostly online or over the phone
What we do about it
- Match you with acquirers that accept your sector, so you aren't declined again
- Prepare the application with you so underwriting has what it needs
- Explain rates, rolling reserves and settlement times in writing before you apply
- Set up terminals, a virtual terminal or an online gateway, whichever you need
- Stay your contact afterwards if the acquirer asks for anything
What clients say
We needed a high-risk gateway. They set clear expectations and delivered exactly as promised.
Found us a facility when no one else could. Couldn't recommend them more.
High-risk account questions
What is a rolling reserve?
A percentage of each day's card takings that the acquirer holds for a set period, often several months, to cover possible chargebacks. It is then released back to you. We'll tell you the expected reserve before you apply.
Are the rates higher?
Usually, yes. Specialist acquirers charge more to cover the extra risk. We compare the options available for your sector and show you the full cost in writing.
How long does approval take?
It depends on the acquirer and how complete the application is. Underwriting for high-risk accounts takes longer than a standard account, and we'll give you a realistic timescale at the start.
Can you help if my account was closed?
Often. Tell us what happened and we'll be straight with you about which acquirers are likely to consider you.
